Lockwood Brasscore

The Lockwood Brass Core range is a collection of twenty-four door handles. The primary design challenge was to create a wide selection of elegant door handles that also met accessibility and mobility compliance requirements for public institutions. Compliance regulations are designed to ensure users with diverse mobility can easily operate door handles; however, compliant door furniture is often perceived by architects and interior designers to lack aesthetic appeal.

The Brasscore range has been awarded a Good Design Award 2020.

The Brasscore range was part of Melbourne Now 2023 with 200+ contemporary projects and events across all three levels of NGV Australia.

Working within compliance constraints, we explored three-dimensional forms, using various design languages to suit a range of buildings and styles to address aesthetics, ergonomic comfort, ease of manufacture and longevity. Made from recyclable brass, the range is one of the largest collections of AS1428.1 compliant door handles on the market and is customised and assembled in Australia.

Lockwood Brass core range was a part of Melbourne Now 2023 on the Design Wall. There were 200+ contemporary projects and events across all three levels of NGV Australia.

“Design Wall 2023 celebrates innovative consumer products designed in Melbourne. Design is always about delivering a degree of change. How and why new products are developed is driven by social dynamics, regulations and economic forces. Encoded with vast amounts of information, products and their designs are shaped by the conditions and systems of place and time – development and delivery are the result of process. Offering insight into the factors influencing contemporary product design in Melbourne, NGV's Design Wall 2023 explores how everyday goods can embody the qualities of place and the values of those who live there.”
