Swing

The 2023 Melbourne Fringe was launched by this eight-metre-high swing in the forecourt of Victoria's State Library. The Artistic Concept and Direction was led by Ian Pidd and Susan Giles.

The structure of the Swing had been designed for an individual to be pushed like a child whilst experiencing the artistic performances that surrounds them.

The design is made up of smaller parts to make it portable for touring into a variety of outdoor venues, large and small spaces. The steel structure parts can be easily assembled and packed down without damage to the surrounding environment. This is achieved by a ballast solution under each of the feet.

A wheelchair platform attaches to the swing so that persons with disabilities can share this experience.

Swing is commissioned with Principal Partner support from the Naomi Milgrom Foundation. Swing is supported through the Melbourne City Revitalisation Fund – a $200 million partnership of the Victorian Government and the City of Melbourne.
